7 Free MLM Lead Generation Methods You Could Be Using Right Now
If you want to get free MLM leads (which I don't know why you wouldn't) then you are in the right place.
There are a variety of different ways to generate free leads -- ways that could be very beneficial for your business if you aren't using them.
What is a lead?
A lead is nothing more than a potential customer that isn't yet a customer. It is someone that has interest in what you have to offer but at this point that is about it.
When you get a lead, which usually means you get someone to give you their email address or phone number, not only do you know that this person might be interested, but you also have the ability to follow up with that person again and again since you have their contact information.
How "qualified" your lead is makes a big difference in marketing strategy. You may be able to make your pitch to highly qualified leads right away while with lower qualified leads you will have to do a little more nurturing.
Obviously having this ability to continuously follow up is much more beneficial than a "one and done" type of deal.
It's also important to take note that the number of leads you have doesn't matter. It's all about quality. The more qualified the better. You could have 100 qualified leads that lead to more conversions than 1000 low quality leads.

You could make your whole pitch, such as "hey join this opportunity or buy this product because it will do this, this, and this for you" right from the start, and risk losing potential conversions from coming on too strong -- or you can start out more slowly and get a lead first (contact info) so that you can warm people up over time.

Before Getting Free Leads (Important)
Before going out and trying your luck getting free leads, it is very important that you know who your audience is.
What type of fish are most willing to bite the bait you have?
Knowing your target audience is a must no matter what you are trying to market, whether it be a product, an opportunity, or so on.
If you try getting leads from the wrong audience you will likely get very few and what you do get will likely be low quality and won't stand a good chance of converting.
Would you try selling diabetes medicine to someone without diabetes? Or a dog toy to someone without a dog? No... Obviously not, but of course everyone knows this once they think about it.
So really think about it -- what type of people can you benefit with what you have to offer?
- Who might be interested?
- What are you offering and what needs does it serve?
- Why will it matter to your audience? How can it help?
- Where can you find your target audience?
You should at least give these questions some thought beforehand.
Are you part of the target audience?
If you are then it will definitely help you out.
Are you enthusiastic about the products that your MLM sells and the opportunity they provide? Would it be a good idea to market to others like you?
If you are a prime target then it makes things a lot easier. You will understand your market more because you are part of it, which is why you should probably avoid joining a MLM opportunity for the money alone. Join if you believe in what they are doing and believe in the products, but not just for the money. This will be able to connect with people genuinely much easier if this is the case, which means more leads.
7 Free Ways to Generate Leads
1. Social Media
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc... These are all free to join and they are a great way to generate leads for any MLM you may be a part of.
If you are going to attract leads with your personal profile then good content is a must. People follow other people who post good content. Now what 'good content' actually consists of depends on who your audience is. What some people find annoying and valueless, others might find inspirational and full of value.
You might want to create a separate profile for the 'business you' so that you don't annoy your friends. But this is completely up to you. Maybe your friends are the type of people that would support your MLM endeavors, I don't know...
At the top of the list for getting leads through social media are Facebook groups.
A Facebook group is nothing more than a place for group communication about some topic. There are groups on just about any topic you can think of, such as as making money from home, essential oils, extra income opportunities, and lots of others that could potentially be prime targets for new MLM leads.
Being Helpful Is Key:
Be helpful. If someone is looking for a business opportunity or some good weight loss products, don't shove your offer down their throat. This isn't a good strategy for getting leads.
Instead of even showing your offer, you could let them know that they can message you for help. You could provide a small amount of valuable and helpful information and then at the end say something like "Feel free to message me if you'd like some tips or help".
For example if you were part of an essential oils MLM you could post in a FB group:
"Here are 5 solid benefits to 'such and such' oil...
Feel free to message me for more information on the best essential oils for specific problems. I spend a lot of time researching essential oils and have a lot more help I could provide."
Creating Your Own Group:
You might want to get the hang of using FB groups to generate leads by just joining other groups. But if you want to go a step farther, you can create your own group around whatever topic it is that is relevant.
The benefits to having your own group are pretty straightforward -- you will be in control of the group and will have more leeway with what you post.
You can get creative with this. For example if you are trying to get leads, using the same example, for an essential oils MLM then you don't have to create a group around essential oils itself. You could take a more roundabout approach and create a group about some common problem that essential oils can help with, and get leads this way.
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a great way to get free MLM leads. But -- you will need a website.
Don't have a website? Don't worry. It isn't the complicated mess it used to be back in the early 2000's. It isn't the technical hurdle it used to be and you can get hosting + a domain at Bluehost for as little as $2.95/mo. GoDaddy is another cheap option and there are many more.
Optimizing your website for the search engines (like Google) is something that just about everyone should be doing. There are loads of people searching online for all kinds of information, including information that you can provide and use to collect leads.
According to recent numbers, there are about 3.8 million Google searches per minute. You better believe that some of these searches are fore MLM opportunities or products that your MLM business sells.
With SEO you have the ability to get people to come to you. You don't advertise or throw an offer in their face. You let them search and find your website.

SEO mostly revolves around creating good content and targeting good keywords.

- Is 'this MLM' worth it?
- The best essential oil for 'some problem'

The different angles you can take to attracting visitors to your site are endless.
Take a look at the Google search I performed below where I asked: 'should you join young living'...
This is something someone might ask who is looking into the opportunity. And that very first result is a website by someone promoting the opportunity.
Using a keyword research tool when doing SEO is very important. What this will do is allow you to find keywords (phrases that people are searching for in Google, etc) that have a good amount of searches and low competition from other websites.
I good choice for a keyword research tool is Jaaxy (what I use), but there are other options out there as well.
With Jaaxy you can see the average # of searches a keyword gets per month (Avg), the estimated traffic you will get if you rank on page 1 of Google for it (Traffic), the competition you have from other websites ranking for that specific keyword (QSR) and more.
You also get a bunch of related keyword suggestions which I always find very helpful.
If you were to target 'best new MLM opportunities' as shown above, you would be attracting people that are hungry to get involved in the next best opportunity. This could be a great keyword for getting new leads.
3. Classified Ads
Craigslist is the king of classified ads. You can post all kinds of things on this site: items for sale, jobs, apartments, gigs, etc.
You might have heard of people posting MLM opportunities on Craigslist before, and if you have, the stories you heard probably weren't very good.
MLM postings, which they can be effective, are often flagged and taken down by the admins. This is because, well -- people don't like them all that much -- and they aren't guaranteed sources of income like traditional paying jobs.
HOWEVER, there is another way to get leads that most people aren't using. So forget about posting a Craigslist 'gig', try going into the Resumes section and finding people who seem like they would be interested.
There are lots of people looking for extra money, work from home opportunities and so on.
You can easily reach out to them via email and see if they are interested in what you have to offer.
